Player prop bets, often called “props,” focus on individual players' actions rather than the overall game result. They're popular in various sports, especially in basketball. In the NBA, these bets zoom in on specific player achievements such as points, assists, rebounds, blocks, steals, etc.
Looking for a place to try these out? Head over to a major sportsbook. For instance, FanDuel Sportsbook offers a menu of bets for any NBA game. If you're interested in tonight's matchup between the Knicks and Suns, check out the Same Game Parlay tab for various statistical options.
Midway through the first round, we have a weekend of great basketball lined up, with some even better plays to dive into. In our preview of today’s NBA slate, we kick things off with the Cavaliers traveling to Orlando, then the Celtics taking on the Heat, followed by the Pelicans hosting the Thunder, and finish things off with the Lakers squaring off against the Nuggets. In our slate for today, we are taking a guard to pass the ball well, another guard to have a great all-around game, a center to struggle against a strong defense, and finish things off with a same-game parlay for a team on its last rope.
Max Strus o2.5 Assists (-112) (DK) | NBA Player Props
The Cavaliers started off the series phenomenally before a tough showing in their last game against the Magic, taking a tough loss to bring the series to a more competitive 2-1 in favor of Cleveland. Before this blowout, the Cavs looked fantastic, in large part due to the inspired play of one of the key acquisitions in the off-season, Max Strus. The Cavs guard has been an incredible distributor for them this season and as of late, recording at least 3 assists in 7 out of his last 10 games coming into today.
Facing off against the Magic this season, Strus has had an uncanny ability to hit this line. With a sizable 7 games played between the two teams this year, Strus has managed to hit this line in a great 5 out of those 7, giving him a 72% hit rate. The Cavs are a tough matchup for anytime, but seem to have a particularly strong advantage over Orlando, which has allowed Strus to consistently perform well against them.
Speaking of great consistency, Strus has demonstrated this not just against the Magic, but across the entire season for Cleveland. Looking out across the entire season, Strus has hit this line in an unreal 77% of games, giving him implied odds of -335 for the entire year. While Strus has failed to hit this line in two games so far this series, his strong performances across the year should be a clear indicator of the great likelihood he has of hitting this line again today.
Derrick White o16.5 Points + Assists (-102) (DK) | NBA Player Props
One of the many great contributors to the team that finished the season with the best record in the NBA, White has been a do-it-all player that has stepped up in a major way for the Celtics this year. With the series knotted up at 1-1, White will be one of the key players to help Boston steal back a game from the Heat as the next two games will be at Miami. Coming into this game, White has been red-hot, hitting this game in all but 3 of his last 20 games, averaging a wonderful 21.7 points and assists during this period of games.
When facing off against Miami this season, White has been at his best. In the 5 games between Boston and Miami, the Celtics guard has hit this game 4 times giving him a strong hit rate of 80%. In his games against Miami, White has been just about as strong as his recent performances, managing a strong average of 20.6 points and assists, giving him a great cushion over what he would need to hit this line. With his great track record coming into this game and against the Heat, back White to get it done again in this game.

Jonas Valanciunas u13.5 Rebounds + Assists (-108) (DK) | NBA Player Props
As the series shifts to New Orleans, the Pelicans find themselves in a 2-0 deficit against the 1-seeded Thunder, making this a key game if the Pelicans want to have any hope of making this a competitive series. One of the key players for the Pelicans is their anchor at center, Valanciunas, who has been in middling form coming into this game. Over his last 10 games, he has been under this line in 7 of them, giving the under a strong 70% hit rate heading into this contest.
He has a particularly tough matchup against the Thunder, facing a variety of athletic and long defenders across the floor that have an uncanny ability of disrupting any player. This has been a terrible matchup for Valanciunas all season long – in the 5 games played between the two teams this season, he has been under this line in all but 1, again giving the under a dominant hit rate of 80%. Given the overwhelming talent disparity between the two teams, the poor matchup and form for Valanciunas, and the fact that the morale is certainly low for New Orleans, expect the under to hit yet again here.
Denver Nuggets @ Los Angeles Lakers (+100) (DK) | Same Game Parlay
We are going to be featuring one parlay which we believe has great upside potential for this game. Tonight we are looking at a two-leg parlay, featuring D’Angelo Russell scoring over 12.5 points, while LeBron James records at least 40 points, rebounds, and assists combined. Though the Lakers have been thoroughly handled by the defending champions in Denver, they have managed to keep it relatively close in every game, thanks in large part to the elevated play of this duo. Russell has taken a major step up on the offensive side of the floor, particularly coming up against a team that is notoriously tough against point guards. The guard is coming off a terrible showing in his last game, but in the two games prior had managed a strong output of 23 and 13 points respectively, both enough to put him past his line here, a number in which he has hit in 73% of games this year. Joining Russell in this play is the indomitable LeBron James, who has been all over the floor in the postseason for the Lakers, hitting this number in each of his last ten games. In an elimination game on their home floor, it is unlikely that the Lakers are going to go out without a valiant effort, which makes this bounceback game for Russell and continued brilliance for James seem highly likely. Both players have a strong track record across the season hitting their numbers, making this look to be a great play.
In review, we are taking:
This is currently being offered for -105 on DraftKings, but running it through our parlay optimizer, this parlay has hit in 4 out of the last 5 games, giving it implied odds of -400.
Looking at a longer stretch of games, this parlay has still been great. In the last 10 games for the Lakers, this parlay has hit 78% of the time, giving it implied odds of -350.
If you prefer to look at an even longer stretch, this duo has still been great. Over their last 20 games, this parlay has cashed 65% of the time, giving it implied odds of -183.
